Masonry is also a long-term commitment of years; it is not a matter of attending one meeting and finding all the answers immediately. A lifelong desire for self-improvement, helping humanity and an ongoing search for truth is at the heart of Freemasonry
If you would like to apply for membership, the usual procedure is that you meet with two of our senior members, and then have a second interview at a later time. This is partly to ensure that you are a good fit for the lodge that you wish to join, and also to answer all of your questions so that your expectations are properly met. Freemasonry is an ancient and beautiful order, but it is not suited to everybody
Sometimes people read books or see movies that give them the wrong impression of Freemasonry, so we try to be quite clear about what we do and what is involved
Once the interviews have been undertaken, your candidacy is discussed by the Lodge Council and then a vote is taken by the entire membership. Assuming that is successful, then you will be advised of a date for your Initiation.In between we will be in touch to discuss any further questions you might have to ensure that you are comfortable about the next steps.

Becoming a Freemason means you’ll be joining about 175,000 members throughout Melbourne and Wales, as well as Districts overseas.
Membership is open to people from all backgrounds and the organisation’s aim is to empower members to be the best they can be – it’s about building character, supporting members as individuals and helping them make a positive contribution to society.
We have more than 7,000 Lodges, with any man over the age of 18 welcome to join, irrespective of their race or religion. Students are also able to join one of 87 University Scheme Lodges.
Women are invited to join one of two female-only Grand Lodges: The Order of Women Freemasons and Freemasonry for Women.
Ways to join
There are several ways to become a Freemason. If you don’t know anyone who is a member and that you can talk to, then your first step is to contact your nearest Lodge.
Register your interest
All you need to do is simply register your interest by selecting the area where you’d like to join.
Locate the area where you’d like to join
You will be asked to either type in your postcode if you live in England or Wales to find your nearest Masonic centre, or select your country via a drop down menu.
Send us your details
We will then ask you to complete a short form, which will be forwarded to your Province or District.
A representative will be in touch
A local Freemason will then be in touch to tell you more about Freemasonry and answer any questions you may have.
Re- joining
If you’re interested in re-joining Freemasonry, you can also locate your preferred area to register your interest.
